The most famous tourist attractions in Geneva are a clock that is largely made of flowers and an immense fountain, which may make it sound like a slightly dull destination. However, spending time in the lovely Old Town should quickly dispel any such notions. The hilltop historic district is not just a picturesque area that is full of appealing architecture, but is also home to some interesting sights including the Cathedral of St Peter and the Maison Tavel Cheap Hotel Geneva.
Meanwhile, due to the presence of the offices of various global organisations, it has unusually prominent position on the world stage and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. One of the best ways to experience the distinctive side of the city is to visit the neighbouring International Red Cross & Red Crescent Museum and the Palace of Nations, which was one of the real highlights of my stay.
As is the case with the whole of Switzerland, Geneva has a very good public transport system. The buses and trams cover an extensive network and are typically clean, reliable and efficient, as well as quite reasonably priced by local standards.

Our only complaint was the restaurant staff and food. Luckily, we ate out most of the time. As far as location, it wasn't exactly close to the city center, but was within walking distance if you are fit. It is a nice 3 star hotel. 3, Drake - Longchamp Swiss Q HotelThis cheap hotel Geneva - Drake - Longchamp Swiss Q Hotel Stayed here in November 2005. Staff were very friendly and easliy located our booking with our voucher. Reception staff helpful and polite and friendly. Our bedroom was huge (think UK Travel Inn family room), very modern, very clean, light and airy. 4, Sagitta Swiss Q HotelThis cheap hotel Geneva -Sagitta Swiss Q Hotel. We've stayed at Sagitta twice now, Augut 2003 and 20004, for the Fetes de Geneve. The hotel is not the most central but is easily accessible by tram from the main shopping area and a 20 minute walk from the Jet. The staff are welcoming, friendly and speak English, though they appreciate an attempt at French. This is a hotel residence so all rooms have kitchenettes as well as ensuite bathroom/shower rooms. As good a hotel in its class as we have stayed. 3 nights during Geneva Motor Show , location opposite Railway station/airport/exhibition hall, all directly accessible, bus station 5 mins. away for trips to other towns - we did a lovely side trip to Annecy. Rooms spotless, as were public areas and breakfast room. Nice breakfast, entirely self-service, but plenty of it. We had connecting rooms that featured the most comfortable beds on which we have ever slept. The staff members at the hotel were more than helpful. We found the location to be ideal for exploring the old city. Definitely an excellent choice. Best rates found on hotel's website. For Geneva, these are good rates for a 3 star hotel. You can easily walk to the lake, and across to the old town and the main shopping street. Also, almost all buses and trams go through the plaza in front of the train station, Rooms vary a bit in size, but all I've been in are furnished tastefully and have marble bathrooms.
