First Impressions are huge in the lodging business and Dallas Adam's Mark Hotel - Sheraton Dallas Hotel has gone all out to make the arriving guest suitably impressed. The lobby level features plush carpeting, polished slabs of black stone (probably gabbro, for those of you keeping track), and an eighteen-foot bronze statue in the welcome area. In keeping with modern design principles (and the fact that there's a lot of profit from a bar), there are no furnishings in the lobby area except in the lobby lounge. There is a concierge center, though Adam apparently eschews the faux elegance of the French word, calling the counter "Guest Services" instead.
The northbound trains (Red Line) also offer access to Southern Methodist University and the surrounding area (at the Mockingbird Station), Old Towne shopping and restaurants (at the Lover's Lane Station), and the high-end Park Mall (at -- you guessed it -- the Park Lane Station). All three stops require a walk of up to one-half mile to commercial areas, though taxis are usually easy to find, especially in the day time. You can now take a train to the area of Skillman and the LBJ Freeway, I-635.
