When you get off the elevator in the seventh-floor lobby, you are thoroughly in Four Seasons country, with its grand spaces, updated Deco furnishings and splashes of contemporary art. A giant black Botero nude sculpture anchors the hallway that leads to the room elevators, the restaurants and the tiny gift shop.
The Miami Four Season Hotel guest rooms are on the 20th to 29th floors (condominiums are above, office space is below). The best vantage point for the gorgeous view is at the desk-- the universe's way of telling me to get to work? There's high-speed Internet access, too. The Miami Four Season main guest room, dominated by the huge window framed by aqua print draperies and sheer curtains, is carpeted in aqua with a subtle pattern and furnished in the same style as the public rooms. The table lamps looked as if a Deco designer has just gotten back from a tour of Venetian glassworks. There is a king-size bed, a comfy chair with ottoman and a television armoire that also included a DVD/CD player, a keyboard for video games, a safe large enough for a laptop computer and three roomy drawers. Miami Four Season Hotel bathroom has all the amenities: marble floors, shower stall and bath; green marble vanity and huge mirror flanked by wall lamps; separate WC with telephone; beige area rug; fluffy, oversize white towels; hair dryer; and lighted magnifying mirror. The white terry bathrobe was by Frette; toiletries were by L'Occitane. Acqua, the Miami Four Season Hotel lobby-level dining room, serves Northern Italian food. The area where you enter the restaurant, the Galleria, is intended for guests who just want a casual quick bite or are eating alone -- a nice idea, especially for business travelers.
The Miami Four Season Hotel Galleria has marble floors, small round marble tables and 50's-futuristic-style chairs with amoeba-shape patterns and cutouts. The main room, the carpeted dining room, is decorated in lots of ocher and gold, with more formal furniture and a huge glass-front wine cabinet that takes up most of one wall. Both sections face the pool level and the bay beyond. There is also an attractive outdoor section, the Terrace. IT'S the little things that matter, and the drinks are served on white linen coasters (doilies, with the Miami Four Season Hotel symbol embroidered in white), with a little silver bowl of nuts (the good ones, including Brazil nuts, cashews, almonds and pistachios) and another silver bowl of little cheese snacks.
There are now armies of workout equipment, a cardiovascular center, Pilates, 14 types of yoga and the Splash spa, which offers, among other things, the ''muscle melt,'' combining exfoliation, heat application, aromatherapy and massage. The Miami Four Season Hotel isn't near trendy South Beach, although an easy taxi ride will take you there, but it's much closer than Miami Beach to Coconut Grove and Coral Gables. The management is hoping that a lot of the business travelers the Miami Four Season attracts will decide to bring along their families and/or extend their trips for a couple of days of recreation and escape.
